About Me
I began working as a therapist in 2000 in Houston, TX after completing my graduate work in clinical social work. For the first decade of my career, I worked in bilingual community mental health settings, an experience that was foundational to my clinical development. Originally from Mexico City, I went to graduate school and worked for much of my career in Houston, and while I am now based in Austin, I continue to serve clients in both cities.
Over the years, I have been fortunate to work with people at many points in their healing journey, including acute psychiatric care and intensive outpatient programs. At the Menninger Clinic in Houston, I worked for several years in the young adult unit, specializing in dual diagnosis and personality disorders, while also supervising clinical interns and fellows. These experiences deepened my appreciation for the resilience of patients and the importance of tailoring treatment to each individual.
I am a strong proponent of fitting the therapy to the patient and not the other way around. I believe it is the therapist’s duty to learn the patient’s “language,” working in an integrative and collaborative manner to assess which modality is most beneficial at a given time. My approach is thoughtful, grounded, and collaborative, and I draw on more than 25 years of clinical experience to help clients uncover what holds them back and move toward greater vitality, connection, and freedom.
In addition to advanced post-graduate training in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Houston Center for Psychoanalytic Studies and the Pittsburgh Psychoanalytic Center, I have formal training in multiple clinical modalities. These include EMDR and the ASSYST (Acute Stress Syndrome Stabilization) protocol for critical stress incidents, Exposure Therapy from the Behavior Therapy Training Institute for OCD, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Trauma-Sensitive Yoga from the Center for Trauma and Embodiment. I am also a certified yoga teacher, and I hold a certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy (CPTR) with specialized training in Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy.
Community involvement has always been central to my professional life. I have served in city and county efforts to provide psychological first aid and trauma debriefing following natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Harvey. I have also led efforts to provide low cost and pro bono mental health services to migrants seeking asylum in Houston, TX.
I am trained in forensic immigration evaluations, including psychological assessments for asylum, hardship waivers, VAWA, and related immigration proceedings. I approach each case with clinical rigor, cultural sensitivity, and deep respect for the individuals and families involved. I am the recipient of the 2025 AAPCSW Diana Siskind Excellence in Writing Award for my clinical paper on immigration.
.Involvement in the psychoanalytic community is also a priority for me. I am the Immediate Past President of the board of the Houston Psychoanalytic Society, and have also served on the board of the Houston Group Psychotherapy Association. Training emerging clinicians is one of my areas of passion, I was an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Houston and currently provide consultation, case conference groups and supervision to other therapists committed to depth-oriented and integrative approaches
