About Me
I began working as a therapist in 2000 in Houston, TX after I completed my graduate work in clinical social work. For the first decade of my professional life, I worked in bilingual community mental health settings and found this work to be foundational to my clinical development. I am from Mexico City, went to graduate school and worked for the majority of my career in Houston, TX and continue my practice there while being currently based in Austin, TX.
I have been fortunate to treat people in various points in their healing journey, including acute psychiatric care and intensive outpatient programs. I worked at the Menninger Clinic in Houston in the unit for young adults for several years, where I specialized in dual diagnosis and personality disorders. I also supervised clinical interns and fellows.
I am a strong proponent of fitting the therapy to the patient and not the other way around. I believe it is the therapist’s duty to learn the patient’s “language”, that is, to work in an integrative and collaborative manner in assessing which modality is beneficial to each person at a given time.
In addition to advanced post-graduate training in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic therapy from the Houston Center for Psychoanalytic Studies and from the Pittsburgh Psychoanalytic Center, I am formally trained in various other clinical modalities. These include EMDR, Exposure therapy for OCD and ACT therapy. I am also an experienced certified yoga teacher and completed training in Trauma-Sensitive Yoga at the Center for Trauma and Embodiment in Massachusetts. I also hold a certificate in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy from CPTR and have specialized training in Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy.
Community involvement is important to me, and I am also actively involved in community and professional organizations. I am the Immediate Past President of the board for Houston Psychoanalytic Society and have served on the board for Houston Group Psychotherapy Association. I was also an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Houston, and I am recipient of the 2025 AAPCSW Diana Siskind Excellence in Writing Award for my academic clinical paper on immigration.
I am also passionate about supporting other therapists and provide consultation services to clinicians.
