Consultation and Supervision

Consultation and Supervision for Clinicians

Clinical work can be deeply meaningful and emotionally complex. Even experienced therapists encounter moments of uncertainty, impasse, or powerful emotional response. Consultation offers a reflective space to slow down, think more deeply about the therapeutic process, and approach difficult clinical material with greater clarity. My approach is collaborative and grounded in psychoanalytic thinking. Consultation is an opportunity to consider the patient’s internal world, the therapist’s experience, and what may be unfolding, both consciously and unconsciously, within the therapeutic relationship.

Together, we may explore transference and countertransference, enactments, therapeutic impasses, unconscious communication, questions of technique, and the emotional atmosphere of the treatment. Particular attention is given to the therapist’s own responses as a source of valuable clinical information.

Areas of Consultation

I work with clinicians seeking consultation around:

  • Complex trauma, PTSD, dissociation, and attachment difficulties

  • Transference, countertransference, and therapeutic enactments

  • Personality organization and complex clinical presentations

  • Therapeutic impasses, ruptures, and questions of technique

  • Long-term psychoanalytic and psychodynamic treatment

  • Migration, cultural identity, and bilingual or cross-cultural work

  • Integrating psychoanalytic thinking with EMDR, somatic approaches, yoga, and other modalities

  • Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy

  • The emotional demands of clinical work and the development of a sustainable professional identity

I welcome both emerging and experienced therapists, including clinicians who work from theoretical orientations other than psychoanalysis but would like to bring greater depth and reflection to their clinical work.

Clinical Supervision

As a Texas board-approved clinical supervisor, I provide supervision for LMSWs pursuing LCSW licensure. Supervision supports the development of clinical judgment, ethical practice, professional identity, and the capacity to remain thoughtful and emotionally present in complex clinical situations. My supervision is relational and developmentally informed. In addition to discussing diagnosis, treatment planning, and interventions, we attend to the supervisee’s experience of the work and to the ways that personal history, emotional responses, and unconscious processes may enter the clinical encounter. I have more than two decades of supervisory and teaching experience. I supervised clinical interns and fellows at the Menninger Clinic and previously served as adjunct faculty at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work.

Psychoanalytic Training and Leadership

I am a formally trained psychoanalyst and serve on the faculty of the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies (CFPS) in Houston, where I teach and supervise psychoanalytic clinicians. I am also the Immediate Past President of the Houston Psychoanalytic Society. My clinical perspective is informed by more than 25 years of work across bilingual community mental health, inpatient treatment, intensive outpatient care, and private practice. This range of experience allows me to help clinicians think psychoanalytically while remaining attentive to the practical, cultural, ethical, and somatic dimensions of treatment.

Individual and Group Consultation

I offer individual consultation, clinical supervision, and ongoing case consultation groups. Group consultation provides an opportunity for clinicians to think collaboratively about clinical material while developing greater sensitivity to relational dynamics, unconscious processes, and the emotional experience of treatment.
